Michelle, can you hear me?

*UPDATE*....glad to see the comments coming in. However, in response to one comment, I should point out that the Subers are my Dad's side of the family, the Eichmans are my Mom's side. I am therefore not equating our troops with Nazis. My grandfather, Richard Eichman, served in the U.S. Navy for the better part of four decades. So have fun donating on my behalf :)

--------------------------------------

In response to Michelle Malkin's challenge to liberal bloggers, I joined the Air Force team and made a donation on behalf of the Subers and Eichmans who've served in our armed forces.
From Michelle...

The yearly fund-raising drive for Project Valour-IT, which donates voice-activated laptops to disabled soldiers, kicked off earlier this week. I joined the Marine team, which is currently in second place–close behind the Army team. Reach into your pockets if you can and chip in often. The friendly blog competition to support Project Valour-IT runs through November 11. Soldiers’ Angels, which organizes and runs the drive, is one of my favorite military charities. You may recall that on the second day of competition, I made a pledge:

In addition to my donation yesterday, I will chip in another $25 for each left-wing blogger, up to 10 total, who signs up today. Send me an e-mail and let me know which team you’ve joined.

You may be interested to learn that I haven’t received a single e-mail. Soldiers’ Angels webmaster Holly Aho says she has been on the lookout for any left-wing Project Valour-IT members and would give me a heads-up if any signed up. So far, to our knowledge, none have.

We'll see if this liberal, Southern blogger gets recognized :) In the meantime...

Thanks so much for helping to spread the word about Valour-IT!

Holly was busy with family events over the weekend, but we'll get right on this.

Well, isn't that nice. Supporting our troops while equating them to Nazis.

I'm going to enjoy donating in your name...

The humor's a little touchy, but thanks so much for clarifying that.

angry white guy:

Thanks for demonstrating the utter stupidity of the angry wingnut.

FbL, you said: "The humor's a little touchy.."

You also described Greg's comment as "perhaps an ill-advised joke" over at MM's site. One that he'd clarified.

Actually, it doesn't look like a joke or touchy humor at all. It looks like a sincere statement of someone wanting to honor those in his family who have served. Would you have thought it an "ill-advised joke" if he'd said he was donating in honor of the Joneses and Petersons who have served?

He didn't deserve this sort of jibe, and I hope you correct the impression here and at MM.

You'd be surprised how fast and how far this stuff travels.

Thanks.

*sigh*

Considering the context, once he explained himself I figured he had said it with a wink and a nod to poke the reactionaries, since he didn't bother to explain Eichmann (a name this is like waving a flag in front of a bull) was a family name when he first wrote the line. Hence, my response. Obviously his primary intention is to honor his family; again, in context it seemed to ALSO be a bit of a poke to get a rise out of people.

Excuse me for taking things so lightly. I was in a hurry yesterday morning with far more tasks than minutes and didn't realize my response my offensive.

My deepest apologies. Seems I couldn't NOT step on someone's toes yesterday.

Sorry, FbL, I realize you mean well, but ...

You are still putting Greg on the spot when he did absolutely nothing wrong, and quite obviously intended no joke, no red flag, and no poke to get a rise out of anybody.

He has gone out of his way to help your cause, and deserved better than your comment. I really hope you will correct the impression that you left over at MM.

Thanks.

PS, and of course he owed no "explanation" to anybody. But he was kind enough to give one.

*sigh* I give up. I thought my last comment was a conciliatory apology for misunderstanding (along with an explanation of why/how I misunderstood).

Only thing I can figure is that perhaps the statement "Excuse me for taking things so lightly" is being "heard" as sarcastic. I assure you it is most definitely not. I was apologizing for taking things lightly and not communicating well in my hurry to tackle so many things at once.

And now I am done here. I seem to find myself once again unable to be the above-reproach paragon required for acceptability. I wish no one (most particularly our host) ill will here, but I can't seem to communicate that. My best to all of you, but I'm out of here.

*beating head against wall in frustration*

Great display of ignorance, there.

In your own state of Colorado there are 308 phone listings for the name Eichman.

I'm sure they would love to contribute to their organization, except they probably prefer not to be equated with a joke, or a red flag being waved in front of a bull.
